When you mention Rio, people think of glamour, Copacabana, Carnival, the Samba and the amazing edifices of Sugarloaf and Corcovado. This program provides you an in depth introduction as you gaze on Copacabana from your ocean front room, ascend Sugarloaf by cable car and Corcovado by train. See the splendid excess that is Carneval contrasted with a quiet seafood dinner on the beach.
Upon arriving in Rio you are met by your Ultitude guide and escorted to your hotel on Copacabana Beach. After a chance to freshen up, you have a chance to relax or take a stroll along Copacabana Beach. Enjoy dinner at your hotel this evening.
Sugar Loaf Mountain which has become an iconic symbol of the city, and its name is said to be based on its resemblance to the way sugar was refined and stored. Your adventure begins when you take a cable car to the top of Urca Hill which rises 600 feet above sea level and offers spectacular views of the entire bay and its islands. From Urca hill you take a second cable car to the top of Sugar Loaf which stands 1,200 feet above sea level and offers a 360 degree view of the entire city including Botafogo and Copacabana Beaches, Corcovado and Downtown Rio. After you descend we take you for a traditional Brazilian Lunch at a city landmark. Confeitaria Colombo retains much of its Art Nouveau charm dating back to the beginning of the last Century. After lunch you are returned to the hotel where you have the chance to explore the beach or try the spa at the hotel. This evening you have the opportunity to try one of the many fine restaurants in the Copacabana area.
After breakfast your host will be waiting in the lobby to take you to visit one of the world’s most recognizable attractions. Located 7,000 feet atop Corcovado Hill, the Statue of Christ the Redeemer was recently elected as one of the seven modern wonders of the world. You will take a scenic drive around the perimeter of the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon arriving at the base of the hill where you board a train which will take you through one of the few rain forests in the middle of a major city. Upon reaching the top you will look up at the statue in awe and then the view below you with wonderment. After a suitable time to take it all in your guide will take you back down to a charming old house in a beautiful cobblestone hilly street in Santa Teresa where you have lunch. After lunch you will be taken past the famous beaches of Rio including Leblon and Ipanema. In the evening you meet your guide out for a night on the town. You will see a spectacular samba show with singers and dancers in elaborate costumes straight out of Carneval. For a change of pace, a table has been reserved at a seafood restaurant located on Leme Beach where you can enjoy fresh oysters and a parade of grilled delicacies including lobster, fish, and other shellfish.
Depending on your flight time, your guide will be waiting to take you to the airport to catch your flight for the next part of your Brazilian or South American discovery.
