Puerto Vallarta’s Art Scene
You can see artistic influence everywhere in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Vitea Restaurante, for example, had its chairs and tables custom-designed by a team of local artists. Though local artists are abundant, world artists feel the need to have visibility here as well. Stroll down the Malecon and you’ll see their sculptures anchoring the boardwalk. Puerto Vallarta caters to these art sensibilities. During October through May, art is exhibited via “Art Walks.” Nine galleries currently participate, and everything is located in the Puerto Vallarta’s historic center, which itself is of charming design. If you can’t make one of the art walks, you can always visit individual galleries. There are more art galleries in Puerto Vallarta than in any other coastal destination in Mexico.
Galería Dante has great diversity. It is the largest gallery in Puerto Vallarta. Art includes original classical, contemporary, and abstract paintings by local, national and international artists as well as sculptures from Mexico’s contemporary artists. I was first exposed to many of Mexico’s artists including Guillermo Gomez. I’ve been fascinated by his depictions of the human form ever since. The gallery is open Monday through Friday 10am to 5pm. Basilio Badillo 269.
Sol y Luna Fine Contemporary Art
Sol y Luna Fine Contemporary Art is one of two galleries curated by Alejandro Baez. Here you will find unique paintings and sculptures of all different styles from international artists. It also showcases modern art from Mexican artists. They are unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that are also reasonably priced.
Wherever you go, you’ll discover the rich culture though Puerto Vallarta’s art scene. Remember to take lots of photos!
