Explore the Everglades
Miami is home to one of the United States natural wonders: the Florida Everglades. Everglades National Park is the largest subtropical wilderness in the entire US. It has been designated a World Heritage Site, International Biosphere and Wetland of International Importance.
The gate to the everglades is Shark Alley Visitors Center located about 25 miles West of Miami. Depending on the season you are visiting, there are a number of different activities available for you to participate in. Hiking, biking, paddling and even some camping is available.
There is a large variety of animals including black bears, alligators, crocodiles, manatees, Florida panther and grey fox as well as many species of birds, reptiles and insects. A guided tour on pontoons, airboats, canoes and kayaks is the best way to learn about all of the species in the park. Since this is not a zoo and these are wild animals, you are strongly advised to stay away from the animals that you do see.
This is a fun family excursion that is both an adventure and educational.
